The Jacksons jute placemats are 100% sustainable, crafted from natural jute that grows abundantly, as a weed, on marginalised land in Bangladesh. Known locally as the âgolden fibre,â jute has a low environmental impact with no need for water. It also absorbs a large amount of carbon dioxide while growing and is extremely strong as a raw material.
Our jute placemats are handcrafted by women living in remote rural villages in southern Bangladesh. These women work from their homes, in between caring for their families and traditionally tending the land. They are paid directly for their work, empowering them within their own society. The Jacksons are proud to support the education, healthcare and livelihoods of these craftspeople who have become Louise Jacksonâs âextended family.â
Approx 50cm x 48cm. 100% Jute. Azo free dye. We advise storing jute away from direct sunlight in a cool, dry place. Colour may bleed if the jute gets excessively wet.
